The Isle of Wight County School Board met in a special called session on March 3, 2026, at the district administrative office in Smithfield and voted to enter closed session to discuss the performance and possible discipline of a central office employee and to consider the appointment of a central office employee.
A board member moved that the board go into closed session "to discuss and consider the performance and possible discipline of a central office employee as authorized by Va. Code § 2.2-3711(A)(1) and to discuss the appointment of a central office employee as authorized by Va. Code § 2.2-3711(A)(1)." The motion was seconded and approved by voice vote. School board members Mrs. Perkins, Mr. Worster, Mr. Marsh, Mr. Ford and Mr. Coll voted yes.
After returning to open session the board considered a certification stating the closed meeting had been conducted in conformity with the Virginia Freedom of Information Act and that only matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements were discussed. A motion to certify compliance was presented, seconded and approved by the same five members.
The presiding officer announced there would be no action on the closed-session items and the meeting was adjourned. The meeting record does not state any formal disciplinary action, appointment outcomes, or additional public motions relating to the personnel matters discussed in closed session.
