Armando, who said he lives at the property, asked the Weed City Planning Commission for permission to install a 5'10" solid vinyl fence after a recent storm damaged an older fence and the yard experienced vandalism.
At a staff presentation, planning staff said the Weed Municipal Code limits front fences to 4 feet unless the commission grants an exception; the application seeks a taller fence that would run along the eastern and northern property lines. Staff noted the property had previously been issued a stop-work order and other violations; the building department reported those violations were corrected, but an on-site inspection during snowy conditions was inconclusive. Notices required by California law were sent to properties within 300 feet.
"We just want to put a fence up," Armando told the commission, adding that trees and previous storms had damaged the old fence and that the household had repaired parts of it themselves. He said the proposed fence would improve safety and privacy after incidents of vandalism and a neighbor's tree falling onto the fence.
Commissioners asked staff to verify the precise property line and a 20-foot frontage measurement before deciding whether the front/side location qualifies for an exception to the 4-foot limit. Staff and commissioners repeatedly emphasized the need for a clear property-line survey and for an inspection appointment with code enforcement. One commissioner recommended tabling the item to allow a reinspection.
The commission voted to table the application and asked the applicant to meet with the building inspector, Steve, for a reinspection and confirmation of fence placement. The item will return to the commission after code enforcement documents the property line and confirms whether prior violations remain outstanding.
