Board approves roof contracts and advisory agreement to pursue bonding for repairs

At its March 23 meeting, the Letcher County Board of Education approved a bid to repair roofs at three district schools and separately approved a municipal advisory agreement with RSA to explore bond financing to cover the project.
Nut Graf: Board members discussed the scope and timing of the work and said contractors will schedule disruptive tasks, such as tear-offs, for times when students are not in classrooms. Officials said the total program of repairs is roughly $1.9 million; bonding under the state facility program could cover approximately $1.3 million with the district using roughly $600,000 of general fund resources if required.
Board members said the advisory agreement with RSA will allow the district to pursue municipal bonds; the agreement is nonbinding and can be terminated. The board also discussed logistics for sequencing three jobs and having multiple crews work to limit disruption during school days.
The motions to approve the selected roof bid and to enter the municipal advisory agreement were made and approved in separate voice votes during the meeting. The board asked staff and the financial advisor to return to a future meeting with further details.
