Colfax County commissioners approved a cooperative fencing agreement with the New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) to install fencing at the La Mesa Park airfield (old airport). Under the arrangement NMDOT will pay for materials and the county will cover labor costs.
Staff reported three labor quotes had been received and the lowest bid was $4,100. Commissioners supported the project, noting it should clean up the site and help make it more usable for occasional events (for example, the balloon festival). Commissioners discussed increasing deposit fees and adding language to rental/use agreements to make users responsible for damage if fencing or other infrastructure is cut or damaged.
The motion to approve the cooperative fencing agreement passed on a roll call with Commissioners Kern, Trillo and Chairman Tatum voting yes. Staff will proceed to set up a purchase order and schedule work once procurement steps are complete.
