Marple Newtown committee outlines budget shares and sets April timeline for proposed final budget

A staff member briefing the Marple Newtown School Board’s Budget & Finance Committee said the district’s portion of the Delaware County Intermediate Unit (DCIU) general budget is $78,000 — a flat amount from last year — and that the special education agreement will be reconciled to actual services used.

The staff member said the district’s share of the technical school budget is forecast at about $640,000, an increase from the prior year driven by higher enrollment at the technical schools. “Our portion of that cost is only $78,000 and that represents a flat no increase from last year,” the staff member said. “The technical school portion is forecasted at around $640,000, which is an increase from the prior year.”

The presenter outlined the required timeline for the district budget process: the proposed final budget will be presented to the committee on April 14, and state school code requires a 30‑day interval between the proposed final budget and the final adoption. Because of meeting scheduling, the staff member said the final budget vote would fall in June.

The committee discussed the mechanics of the special education agreement, which the staff member described as an estimate that is reconciled at year’s end to reflect actual services the district uses. No formal vote was recorded in the committee update; the presenter invited board members to raise questions and to contact staff with follow-up items ahead of the April presentation.
