The presenter described the rationale as aligning middle‑school grading with broader district and regional practices and cited polling that showed support among stakeholders.
Board members asked whether the district would track changes in GPA and other outcomes after implementation. The administration said it has current‑year and historical GPA data that can be used as a baseline and recommended tracking year‑over‑year changes to measure impacts.
The motion to approve the updated Nippers Middle School grading scale was made, seconded and passed on a roll call vote recorded as yes by Melffeld, Stansbury, Casey, Johnson, Shufeld, Schwarz and Quinn.
The board discussed coordination with ongoing standards‑based report card work at the elementary level and noted the middle school will retain its existing schedule alignment while the elementary pilot proceeds. The administration recommended the 70/30 policy for the 2026–27 school year and full K–5 standards‑based implementation is expected in 2027–28 if pilot work proceeds as planned.
