He also urged separating lunch and recess into two 30‑minute periods rather than a single combined 30‑minute block so students have adequate time to eat and move, and he recommended expanding world language offerings beyond Latin, German, French and Spanish to include Asian and African languages.
"Students spend about 7 hours a day in school ... they need moments to rest, move their bodies, and connect with one another," the caller said. He described seeing an organized student petition at Wayne Elementary requesting more recess and asked the committee to consider the students’ perspective.
The committee listened and acknowledged the comment; no formal motion or policy change was made during the meeting. The caller’s suggestions were entered into the public record for the committee’s consideration as curriculum and schedule discussions continue.
