Police Chief said, "I'm proud to announce the promotion of Lieutenant Nick Malone to the position of assistant police chief for the City of Lufkin," praising Malone’s 21 years with the department and his record of service. Staff noted Malone joined the department in 2004, advanced to corporal and sergeant, transferred to criminal investigations and was promoted to lieutenant in 2020. He served on the department SWAT team from 2012 to 2023 and was team leader in 2018, according to the chief.
The chief also highlighted Malone’s training credentials: certified TCO instructor and firearms instructor since 2013, a master TCO license and more than 2,400 hours of continuing education through TCO programs. The department presented Malone with his assistant chief badge during the ceremony.
The mayor and council members briefly recognized Malone and allowed staff and guests to remain for informal reception arrangements as the meeting transitioned to regular business.
No votes or formal policy actions were associated with the promotion.
