CCB Executive Director James Hum to leave; board praises his leadership

Executive Director James ("Jimmy") Hum told the Cannabis Compliance Board March 19 that he will leave the agency after accepting an appointment as director of the governor's office of energy, effective March 30. Board members and several public commenters used the meeting to thank Hum for his service and leadership.
Board members praised Hum’s efforts to stabilize the agency, strengthen industry communication and build internal teams. Chair Berry and multiple members credited Hum with improving relationships between the board, staff and industry and with professionalizing operations.
Hum, speaking to the board, thanked staff and board members and highlighted staff contributions across enforcement, inspection, lab audits and administrative teams. He said Deputy Director Ross Miles will step into the director role as acting director after Hum's departure. Hum described the agency team as "one of the hardest working groups I've ever had the pleasure to be around" and said he is confident in the transition.
Several public commenters, including industry representatives and Hum's father, offered personal thanks. The board set the next meeting for April 16, 2026 and closed with adjournment motions.
