Board spotlights three Highland student-athletes for state, national honors

Three Highland students were honored by the School Town of Highland Board of Trustees at its March 17 meeting for athletic achievement and academic performance.
The superintendent introduced junior Kennedy Stevens as a two-sport all-state athlete (long jump and wrestling), noting she holds school records in multiple events and carries a GPA near 4.0. Stevens placed sixth in the state long jump as a sophomore and finished eighth in state wrestling this winter, the superintendent said.
Senior Jordan Steel was recognized for all-state basketball honors in the senior large-school classification, breaking the school scoring record and posting a transcript-reported GPA in the range of 4.176–4.2. The superintendent mentioned Steel plans to attend IU Northwest in the fall.
The board also honored Alex (surname not specified in the transcript), who the superintendent described as a four-time state girls wrestling champion, a national folkstyle champion that weekend, nationally ranked in multiple weight classes and a recipient of the state wrestling association’s mental attitude award. The superintendent reported a transcript GPA of about 4.196 (~4.2).
Board members applauded the students’ accomplishments and praised coaches and families. The recognitions included certificates and a photo opportunity with the board.
