Council backs SBCTA Measure I continuation expenditure plan for potential November ballot

Representatives from the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) briefed the Rancho Cucamonga City Council on a draft expenditure plan for a proposed continuation of Measure I, the county's half‑cent local sales tax used for transportation projects.
SBCTA staff described the plan's purpose — to provide a locally controlled funding stream for projects and to leverage state and federal matching funds — and outlined outreach, polling and a timeline of ad hoc and board actions leading to a potential ordinance and Board of Supervisors decision about placement on the ballot.
"It is a critical funding stream, a half cent sales tax, that puts local dollars to work locally," an SBCTA representative said, adding the draft plan offers more flexibility than the current measure and that polling shows favorable public support in initial surveys.
Staff recommended the council adopt a resolution approving the draft expenditure plan; the council voted to adopt the resolution. SBCTA representatives said next steps include further polling, board readings this spring and a final decision by the Board of Supervisors on whether to place a measure before voters.
