Northridge board recognizes teachers, awards grant to kindergarten teacher and adds new Spanish hire

The board called forward Lily Nord, a kindergarten teacher, to receive a $1,000 Leaders for Learning grant and applauded her classroom work. Accepting the recognition, Lily Nord said, "Just thank you so much for everything. I really appreciate it." The board gave her a round of applause.
Board members also reviewed the Viking Ventures Fair and related pathways programming. Staff reported strong student interest in skilled trades and health sciences and described pathways and exit ramps that let students pursue multiple career options while still in high school. Members praised teachers and staff for organizing the event and for hands‑on demonstrations that helped students explore course options.
Under personnel business, the board approved adding Audrey Riddle Torres as a high‑school Spanish teacher in the superintendent’s recommendations; the board thanked the high‑school hiring team for filling the role early.
The meeting included standard business—minutes, financial reports, donations and committee summaries—and concluded with scheduling of an April 21 public hearing and regular meeting.
