The Montgomery City Council on March 24, 2026 accepted the city
FY2025 financial audit after auditors reported an unmodified opinion and stronger-than-expected fund balances.
Robert Bells, the auditor from the accounting firm in attendance, told the council the audit included an unmodified opinion and called page 16 a key snapshot of the city
financial condition. He reported general fund revenues and described an increase to the general fund balance during the year. "We have expressed an unmodified opinion at the highest level with assurance we provide as your auditors," Bells said.
Bells highlighted that the city began the year with a general fund balance he cited as $4,613,000 and ended with $5,788,000, and he pointed to the ratio of days of reserves as a fiscal-health indicator. He also summarized the water and sewer fund
results, reporting operating revenues and a positive increase for that enterprise fund.
Council members moved and seconded acceptance of the audit, and the motion carried. No amendments or follow-up reports were requested during the meeting.
Why it matters: The auditor
reported numbers indicate the city finished the year with increased reserves, which provides a larger contingency for planned capital projects and growth-related demands the council mentioned in discussion.
The audit presentation and vote took place during the regular agenda; the council approved the audit as submitted and moved to other agenda items afterward.
