The Manvel Planning & Zoning Commission on March 23 voted unanimously to forward an updated comprehensive master plan and an amended major thoroughfare map to City Council, agreeing to downgrade the proposed Markham Road alignment north of State Highway 6 to a collector after a lengthy public hearing.
The vote came after more than an hour of public comment in which residents from several rural neighborhoods urged commissioners to remove or reduce proposed thoroughfares they said would invite sprawl, add traffic and damage the area’s rural character. Commissioners voted 6–0 to recommend adoption to City Council with the Markham change.
