At its March 16 meeting, the Homewood SD 153 Board of Education authorized district payments not to exceed $2,778,532.87 covering the second payment of February bills and the first payment of March bills.
The board also voted to award a $2,180,000 bid for summer HVAC replacement work—covering mechanical units and unit ventilators at James Hart and Willow schools—to Quality Control Systems Inc., the low bidder. Administrators said the district used Studio GC and 2010 Engineering to prepare bid specifications, that six firms attended the mandatory pre‑bid, and that Quality Control Systems had performed substantial prior work for the district.
The board approved two employment actions: Leysisha Kenzie Park as an assistant at Churchill School (effective March 2, 2026) and Carolyn McCome as a district food‑service worker (effective March 18, 2026), both contingent on satisfactory criminal background checks and evidence of qualifications.
In his report the superintendent said district buildings are being used as polling sites and announced that the district will hold an e‑learning day during the upcoming election rather than have in‑person classes. He said the district has appealed to the board of elections but was told use of the school as a polling center is not negotiable.
All motions described above were approved by roll call vote.
