Lemon Grove — City leaders and a local nonprofit coalition announced a competitive three‑year CalVIP grant worth $1,000,000 during the council meeting on April 21.
Mayor Lisonbee Snow introduced the California Violence Intervention and Prevention (CalVIP) Collaborative and invited leaders from CommunityNow, Walk With Me Impact, Project AWARE, Outdoor Outreach and My Brother's Keeper CDC to the dais. The coalition described plans for in‑school assemblies, youth development programming, staff professional development in trauma‑informed practice, community resource hubs and data tracking supported by HARC.
Armand King of Walk With Me Impact said his organization will focus on assemblies, staff training and parent engagement with local schools, naming Mount Miguel and Helix feeder high schools among targets for programming. Reginald Washington of Project AWARE described a community hub that provides harm‑reduction resources and access to county services. Outdoor Outreach said it will contribute outdoor leadership programming and workforce pathways for youth. Coalition representatives asked residents to use a QR code on distributed materials to join volunteer lists and stay informed.
Mayor Snow described the award as "a three‑year grant for $1,000,000," and coalition leaders invited council and staff to bi‑monthly meetings to coordinate efforts and share data.
The grant does not require immediate council action at this meeting, but coalition leaders said they will engage city staff and councilmembers in implementation and invited local partners to participate in outreach and program delivery.
