Council appoints David Eckler and Jennifer Morrissey to Lemon Grove planning commission

The Lemon Grove City Council completed interviews of eight planning commission applicants and made two appointments in open session.
Using the successive voting method described by the city clerk, the council first considered the longer partial term (ending June 30, 2027). After each council member stated preferred candidates and deliberation about desired qualifications (experience with permits and construction, community service, and the ability to work across viewpoints), Mayor Snow moved to appoint David Eckler. The roll call recorded five ayes; the motion carried 5–0.
The council then considered the shorter partial term (ending June 30, 2026). Council members again gave their preferred candidates; Mayor Snow moved to appoint Jennifer Morrissey to the shorter term. The appointment passed on a 5–0 roll call.
Council members explained their selection criteria in public deliberations. Council member Smith said he prioritized education, relevant experience and a diversity of viewpoints on the commission; other members cited local volunteer service and technical expertise in construction and permitting as key attributes. The council asked staff to finalize appointment paperwork; both appointees’ terms commence immediately as stated in the staff report.
The appointments were the evening’s formal actions on Item 2; there were no amendments to the terms and no further votes on those appointments recorded.
