Dr. Erica Milhouse Pettis, Sunnybrook School District 171 superintendent, told the board on March 18 that she intends to retire at the end of the next school year and asked the community to participate in a strategic-action-plan survey that closes March 27.
Board members discussed timing for a superintendent search and recommended forming a superintendent search committee at the next meeting, issuing a request for proposals in May if the district chooses to hire an outside search firm, conducting the search over the summer and fall, and targeting a hire by December. One member said the district has internal candidates and that any transition plan would need further discussion; others said the process should be open to external applicants.
Pettis encouraged community input and repeated the district's outreach plans: "Please take my survey...everybody's opinion matters," she said, urging residents to complete the online survey and scan the mailed QR code. Pettis also reminded the audience that state testing began and asked for attention to attendance and student readiness during the testing window.
The board did not take a final vote on a search firm or on a formal timeline at the meeting; members agreed to continue refining the process and to form a committee at the next regular meeting.
