The Big Hollow SD 38 Board of Education on Monday approved the district’s 2026–27 staffing plan, administrative assignments and accepted a slate of resignations.
The superintendent told the board the staffing recommendation trims core classroom teachers in second and third grades from nine to eight to keep class sizes near 20, reflecting a recent drop in overall enrollment. "We are recommending a reduction of the number of core teachers in second and third grade down to eight instead of nine," the superintendent said while reviewing the exhibit. The board moved to approve the final staffing plan for 2026–27 and approved it by voice vote.
The board also reviewed and approved administrative assignments for 2026–27. The list announced by staff included Dr. Biancalana as elementary school principal; Miss Rachel Mullen as primary school principal; Mr. Matthew McCully as assistant superintendent of business and operations; and Dr. Aaron Pitman as assistant superintendent of student services and human resources. The superintendent said the district will reduce the number of administrative positions by one for the next school year. A motion to approve the administrative assignments passed by voice vote.
During the meeting the board accepted resignations from multiple employees, including Haley Sidowski (sixth-grade math teacher); Clifford Nins (lunch/recess monitor); Tim Cloloby (eighth-grade social studies teacher); Tracy H (special education teacher); Brian Summers (middle school assistant principal, effective end of the school year); Sarah Kahar (elementary speech-language pathologist); Jasmina Rosemire (lunch/recess monitor); Anna Hudson (third-grade teacher); and Rachel Phillips (middle school computer science teacher). The board offered well wishes to departing staff and noted the personnel changes during the consent and personnel sections of the meeting.
The board also approved two personnel-related resolutions by voice vote: a resolution authorizing the dismissal of a fourth-year probationary teacher for reasons other than reduction in force, and a separate resolution authorizing honorable dismissal of a teacher based on a decreased number of positions. Both resolutions were presented and carried on motions and seconded votes.
The board set its next regular meeting for Monday, April 13, 2026, with closed session beginning at 6 p.m.
