Board adopts food-service policy to prohibit misbranded products and approves routine financial items

Assistant Superintendent for HR Mr. Spinner told the board that a new Ohio law requires school districts to adopt a policy prohibiting purchase of misbranded meat, eggs and cultivated protein products and recommended adoption of District Policy 8500 that evening using the district's one-reading provision (policy 0131).

"Misbranded means the label doesn't clearly or truthfully represent what the food actually is," Mr. Spinner explained, and he said the new policy would not change the district's relationship with existing vendors such as St. Margaret of York or Lachland, which "will have the same expectations." The administration recommended adopting Policy 8500 that night to meet the state deadline.

During the treasurer's report, Mr. Marorrow reviewed routine consent items including meeting minutes, the check register, year-to-date actuals versus estimates, cash reconciliations, the tax-rate reaffirmation (the county certified continued collection of property taxes consistent with the tax budget approved in January), the settlement agreement, 2026 amended appropriations and grant certifications. The board approved the treasurer's items and personnel/policy recommendations by roll call.

The meeting also included a public records log update and a staffing forecast: Spinner said the district expects a small change in certified staffing for the coming year and announced a long-time educator's retirement.

Next steps: policy 8500 is adopted to comply with state law; administration will continue to report on appropriations and grant certifications at future meetings.
