Hardin County supervisors discussed a city request concerning a tax-sale certificate for a parcel in Whitten and directed the county attorney, Daryl, to contact the city attorney and explain available options.
Staff said the city had originally asked the county to take title and deed the property to the city, which staff recommended against because taking title would create liability and additional costs for the county. Instead, staff recommended the city request assignment and compromise of the tax-sale certificate or pursue an abandonment process through the courts, both of which carry cost and procedure implications.
A board member moved to direct the county attorney to contact Whitten's attorney and explain the process; the motion carried. The board did not grant the city's original request to take title and deed the property to the city at this meeting.
Next steps: the county attorney will contact the city attorney and outline the assignment/compromise option and other legal pathways as discussed.
