Hardin County supervisors voted March 4 to approve a tentative labor agreement with AFSCME Council 61, the union that represents the county's sheriff's deputies, and directed staff to execute a final contract consistent with that agreement.
A board member said the negotiations, which included representation from most deputies and the county's human-resources attorney, Mike Galloway, produced "a great compromise" intended to help with retention and recruitment of road deputies. "We had a very good negotiation with their representation," the member said.
The motion to approve the tentative agreement carried on a voice/roll-call vote. No amendment or dollar amounts were read into the record during the meeting; the board noted the county and union had negotiated terms with union representatives present.
Next steps: the board directed county staff to finalize contract documents consistent with the negotiated tentative agreement and execute the contract when paperwork is complete.
