The board moved to intervene in two property tax appeals that could reduce district property-tax revenue if left uncontested.
Administration explained that Brazenius Kidney Care appealed to the property tax appeals board in Springfield and that, without district intervention, the district could lose about $23,000 in annual property tax revenue. "If we did nothing with Brazenius Kidney Care, we could see a loss of $23,000 in property tax a year," a presenter said.
Administration also described a Walmart appraisal from the company that would lower assessed value substantially and cost the district about $212,000 in annual property-tax revenue unless the district intervenes. Staff said they plan to retain independent appraisal support and to present district evidence in Springfield on the districts behalf.
Board members motioned and seconded the requests to intervene; staff said the interventions will allow the district to submit evidence and preserve tax revenue while the appeals are decided.
