The Concord-Carlisle School Committee heard a presentation from the Unified Sports program highlighting substantial growth and the program's first unified bowling season.
"Unified sports is dedicated to promoting social inclusion through shared sports training and competition experiences," coach Josh Reed told the committee, tracing the program's history at the high school and noting expansion from 17 participants in its first track season to 51 this year across programs. Reed credited mentors and pathway students who helped design uniforms and build continuity across seasons.
Student mentors and athletes shared short testimonials. Senior Presley Rogers said, "Unified Track has like changed my life," describing daily hallway interactions and the way teammates cheer one another on. Student Abby Morano said the program makes students feel supported across practice and classes.
Administrators flagged upcoming meets and community events tied to the program: a home meet on Monday, April 13 at Emerson (4 p.m.) and an end‑of‑season multi‑school event around May 15 that features Special Olympics sponsorship, ceremonies and community volunteers.
Committee members thanked students and coaches for their presentation. Superintendent updates later in the meeting noted efforts to publicize the program on athletics social accounts and to incorporate unified activities into regular school programming.
Next steps: the committee encouraged promotion of the program and attendance at upcoming meets; administrators will continue coordinating transportation and scheduling for competitions.
