Wakulla commissioners approve purchase of 5 acres for planned Fire Rescue Station 3

The Wakulla County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved a purchase-and-sale agreement for about 5 acres along Woodville Highway to site a future Wakulla County Fire Rescue Station 3.
Staff said the parcel sits north of the Wakulla Station intersection and was included in the county’s public-safety master plan adopted about five or six years ago; moving the station is intended to provide better coverage for the northeast side of the county and to reduce some residents’ fire-insurance ratings by placing them within a five‑mile driving distance of a station.
“...this will grab a whole lot more homes up there,” a staff presenter said, explaining that the purchase completes the second-to-last land acquisition needed under the overall public-safety master plan and that the county has applied to the legislature for funding to build the station.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions about proximity to the county line and whether the new site would still allow the St. Marks station to cover its nearby area; staff said the planned relocation would work together with a northern move of the St. Marks station to improve coverage. The board voted to approve the purchase agreement without opposition.
Next steps: Staff will proceed with closing the purchase and pursue construction funding; the board will be updated on funding outcomes and future construction scheduling.
