The Town of Lewisville unanimously approved Ordinance 2026‑008 on March 12 to rezone and annex an approximately 5.27‑acre parcel (tax parcel ID 5855652445) currently occupied by the Lewisville Volunteer Fire Department.
Planning Director Lynn Cochran presented rezoning case L116 and the companion voluntary annexation request, explaining the parcel lies near the county boundary and is designated in the comprehensive plan as rural residential. Cochran said the planning board voted unanimously on Jan. 14 to recommend approval and described rezoning the parcel to a Lewisville zoning district concurrent with voluntary annexation as standard practice to avoid legal complications.
There were no public speakers for the item. Council Member Brady Allen moved to approve the ordinance, and Council Member Fred Franklin seconded. The council voted unanimously to approve the rezoning and annexation.
The town attorney clarified that if council later voted to deny annexation, the zoning action would be void because the parcel would not be within town limits; the town runs rezoning and annexation concurrently to meet statutory timelines for voluntary annexation requests.
The approval brings the parcel formally into town limits with a Lewisville zoning designation to support continued municipal service by the volunteer fire department.
