Oxford parents form transition committee after PTO executive committee resigns

At the March 17 meeting the district told the board the Oxford Area PTO executive committee resigned on March 13, and several parents addressed the board asking for a clear, transparent path to reorganize.
Dr. Woods said the district recognizes the separation between the PTO and the school district and outlined the process the PTO membership must follow under its bylaws to elect a new executive committee. He added that because the PTO is distinct from the district, “the district is not going to take any of the funds” if they were offered — the district will not act as custodian of PTO accounts while membership sorts governance and bank‑account access.
Three members of the PTO membership spoke during public comment. Joanne Norris said current members are willing to help publicize and run an election so new leadership can be elected by the membership. Hannah Kilgenstein described a temporary committee already organizing to perform a financial audit, clarify bylaws and form an election committee. “Our vision moving forward is simple. Transparency and involvement for parents, support for teachers and staff, and meaningful programming and support for students,” Kilgenstein said.
Evan Kilenstein raised practical transition questions about access to bank records, checkbooks, debit cards, the PTO’s Facebook page and district communications channels (Blackboard) so an interim group can notify families and stabilize operations. He asked who the membership should contact for help in obtaining records and communications access.
Board members acknowledged the concerns and welcomed cooperation; Dr. Woods said administrators will cooperate with procedures that respect the district’s separation from the PTO and will provide guidance about building access and notifications as appropriate. The board took no formal financial action; the public commenters said they will proceed with an audit, a membership vote and an election timeline.
