The Amherst County School Board approved a change to the 2025–26 school calendar to make election day a teacher work day after the board said the county elections office asked the division to limit student traffic because of anticipated heavy turnout.
A board member told trustees they had received a call from the Board of Elections expressing concern about having schools open during heavy election traffic. The board moved, seconded and approved the calendar amendment by voice vote.
The change was enacted by a board motion and recorded in the meeting minutes; no roll-call vote was taken at the time of the amendment. The calendar update will be implemented by the superintendent’s office and inserted into the district’s published calendar.
