County approves Wise Gas & Go concept; Chipotle confirmed for old Taco Bell site; farmers market and tree grants discussed

HAMPSTEAD — Town planning and community-organizer reports covered permits, commercial development and neighborhood events at the council meeting.
A Planning and Zoning representative said the county approved the concept site plan for Wise Gas & Go at 721 Hoover Pike and that the developer aims to introduce the final plan in March with a target completion date by the end of 2026. The representative also confirmed the rumored restaurant project: "That's not a rumor. It's real," they said about a Chipotle planned for the former Taco Bell/KFC site.
Main Street Partnership reported a recent cleanup in which volunteers collected five 55-gallon bags of trash and said the group will partner on a larger spring cleanup in parks and public areas. Organizers also announced a commemorative blue T-shirt for Hampstead Day tied to the town’s 250th anniversary.
The tree commission said a developer originally planted trees, 85 of which died; the town reported a roughly $7,000 grant to replace those trees and said additional planting is planned for spring 2027, with fall plantings at Westwood Park.
Farmers market planning was also discussed: the train station will reopen for Hampstead Day, the market has 15 vendors and eight sponsors so far, and organizers requested vendor applications and payments by April 1.
