HAMPSTEAD — Hampstead officials honored police officers for their roles in a March 2023 domestic disturbance that, officials said, culminated in a plea and a 20-year sentence for the offender.
"The actions of these officers on that day saved the victim's life," Chief Snider said as the council presented recognitions for the investigation and follow-up work that led to the conviction. The chief described the case as one of the worst he had encountered and praised the thorough interviews, evidence collection and warrant work that made prosecution possible.
The chief said the case concluded with a sentencing on February 6, 2026, and that diligent follow up and investigative work were key to the outcome. Officers were recognized at the meeting for the actions and subsequent prosecution.
Separately, the presiding official announced that Chief Dave Snider has accepted appointment as Gettysburg’s police chief and will leave Hampstead. "Gettysburg has reached out to him, recruited him, and he has been appointed their new police chief as of last night," the presiding official said. The council indicated it will begin the process to find a replacement and arrange timing for Snider’s departure.
No formal personnel vote was recorded at the meeting; the announcement was informational and the council moved on to officer recognitions.
