County approves Axon taser equipment and training contract for sheriff's office

The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors authorized the chairman to sign a contract with Axon Enterprise for taser equipment, batteries, docking stations and associated training and program management services for the sheriff's office.
Chief Deputy Steve Winchell presented the binding quote and explained the procurement reflected a roughly 4% year-to-year price escalator from the vendor. Winchell said the jail will need extra tasers available for transport and shift coverage and that batteries require monthly docking/charging cycles; the package includes dock stations and instructor access for maintenance checks.
Supervisors discussed quantities and logistics for use on the jail floor and during inmate transports. The board approved the purchase and authorized the chair to execute the agreement, with year-one payments to be covered from gaming funds and a five-year payment schedule noted in the proposal.
Next steps: the sheriff's office will schedule training for staff and implement the equipment and battery management plan.
