Foster City appoints local high‑school student to Citizens Sustainability Advisory Committee

The Foster City Board approved an appointment to the Citizens Sustainability Advisory Committee during its March 2 meeting, filling a partial term that runs from Sept. 1, 2024, through Aug. 31, 2027.
Council moved and seconded the appointment (consent item 6.7) after briefly discussing the nominee in open session; the motion passed by voice vote. The new appointee, who identified himself as Akshaylal and said he is a sophomore at San Mateo High School, spoke to the board after the appointment and described his interest in sustainability and climate issues.
"I've grown up here, and I feel very blessed to have grown up here," Akshaylal said, describing his work as a member of the Foster City Youth Climate Ambassador program and noting local climate impacts he has observed, including wildfire‑related school closures and sea‑level concerns that led to levee construction. He told the council he wanted to bring youthful energy and ideas to the advisory committee.
Councilmembers congratulated the appointee in the chamber and encouraged engagement with current committee members and staff.
