Foster City committee approves red curb at Catamaran Street and Vespucci Lane to improve sight lines

Justin Lai, a senior civil engineer in Foster City’s public works department, presented a staff recommendation to install red curb at a curve on Catamaran Street where parked vehicles hinder visibility for drivers exiting a private driveway and for pedestrians near Beach Park Elementary and Catamaran Park.
“Essentially, they're requesting that we prohibit parking in that area so they can have better visibility coming out,” Lai said, describing the west-side parking pattern and the curb recommendation. He told the committee staff found "0 reported incidents" at that intersection but recommended striking 20 feet of red curb beyond the driveway to improve sight lines for both pedestrians and vehicles.
Committee members voiced support for the proposal and chair actioned a motion. A motion to approve the staff recommendation was made and seconded and passed unanimously, recorded as 5-0 on the voice vote. No amendments or additional conditions were recorded.
The committee did not schedule a follow-up study at the meeting; the action approves only the recommended red curb marking described by staff.
