Committee member Divya Malik reported on a recent visit to the Foster City community garden on land leased from Island Church. She said the garden has 30 raised planter beds, steady usage by families and seniors, and an active volunteer group that communicates by WhatsApp.
Malik said the garden charges a nominal bed fee of $150, irrigation and fencing were supported by the city and Rotary contributions helped with initial setup. The garden currently has a 10–15 person waitlist and asked the city for a dedicated page on fostercity.org and consideration of expanded plots to accommodate demand. Malik recommended increasing promotion, expanding composting and senior/youth programming.
Committee members encouraged pursuing partnerships (for example, community-college outreach and grant opportunities) and noted the garden's potential as an educational and sustainability resource. Staff said they would check for an existing web page and work with the garden association on next steps.
