Ocoee Youth Council presents year in service; 16 seniors qualify for scholarships

Miranda Justice, municipal records coordinator and youth‑council coordinator, introduced students who described participating in an Ocoee Remembers Reception to honor victims of the Ocoee massacre, service at the Operation Santa toy drive, helping at the MLK parade, Spring into Conservation and a youth council legislative summit in DeLand.
The presentation described career shadowing with the GIS and utilities divisions and visits to the police and fire departments, including a SWAT demonstration and a K‑9 demonstration. Justice told commissioners the 16 seniors qualified for the council scholarship program (established by commission action on 12/05/2023) and that council members logged 450 volunteer hours during the school year.
Former youth council member Ashley Clark offered a brief testimonial, saying her participation helped her graduate debt‑free from Tennessee State University and urging current students to pursue opportunities.
Next steps: Commissioners presented scholarship checks to the graduating seniors and the commission expressed thanks to youth council staff and volunteers.
