The Wabash City Schools Board of Education voted May 4 to accept the retirement of Superintendent Dr. Amy K. Sibley effective June 30, 2026. The board unanimously approved the retirement during the meeting and said the district will post the superintendent position by the end of the week.
Dr. Sibley spoke about her five years with the district, saying she wanted to "leave my schools better than I found them" and listing improved state assessment scores and stronger finances among accomplishments. She told the board she and her husband plan to move to Florida. "I still plan to do something in education," she said, and added she will help with the district's superintendent search.
Board members praised Sibley's leadership during a period the administration described as financially challenging. One board member thanked Sibley for leading "with integrity and grace," and several members said they regretted losing a superintendent who helped stabilize the district's finances.
The board said it will open a superintendent search and post the vacancy on the district website and employment platforms; Dr. Sibley agreed to assist in the transition and the search process.
The board's action: The retirement was approved by voice vote; the board will consider benefit details about insurance continuation at a future meeting and make a formal posting for the vacancy.
