District staff told the board the winter had been unusually harsh, that Aspen took on five additional schools through a bid process, and that larger sites such as Park Middle School and Woodrow Wilson require more time and resources. “We started the year with our pretty standard requisition purchase order process for snow removal … we anticipate needing about 112 [thousand] to finish the year,” a staff member told the board.
Board members and operations staff discussed equipment wear and the additional workload; one board member asked whether contractors had performed satisfactorily and was told the vendors had done a good job despite damage to equipment from ice and heavy work.
The board approved the increase by voice vote.
Next steps: Staff will proceed with the increased PO and monitor service and costs through the coming season.
