The Bangor School Board approved two community-funded purchases during its regular meeting: a set of track hurdles for sectional competition and a new Tony set for the activity center.
Administration said coaches surveyed multiple vendors and found bulk pricing favorable; purchasing all 80 hurdles with district graphics reduces unit cost to roughly $145, producing a total cost the presenter corrected to $11,600. The sports booster club has already pledged to fund the hurdles and will cover related costs, administration said. A board member asked about the fate of old hurdles; administration said usable units will be kept for practice while broken units will be discarded.
Separately, the board approved a $12,993 purchase of a new Tony set from a vendor transcribed in the record as "Ligh Holes Music." The Bangor Music Backers pledged $11,993 and a local Girl Scout troop pledged $1,000 toward the purchase. Administration said the new set will remain at the activity center to reduce transport and help classroom instruction; music backers and other donors have also supported pompom and cheer equipment purchases.
Both motions were approved (hurdles motion by Joanie; Tony set motion by Shelley) with one member recording opposition on each vote. Board members thanked the booster organizations for their financial support.
