Committee approves minutes, financials, OSHA and wellness reports during Rutherford County meeting

Rutherford County’s budget and purchasing committee approved a set of routine administrative items including the previous meeting minutes, the April financial report, the March OSHA report and the wellness report.

The clerk called roll and members confirmed attendance. A committee member moved to approve the minutes and the chair called for a voice vote; the minutes were approved.

Ed Elam presented the financial report for April: April revenue totaled $2,009,649 and expenditures were $2,952,276, producing a monthly deficit of $942,686. Year-to-date figures showed revenues of $21,058,451 and expenditures of $25,531,067, which Elam said resulted in a fiscal-year-to-date shortfall of $4,472,617. The committee moved to accept the financial report and approved it by roll call.

Susan presented the March OSHA report, saying there were 18 incidents in March (14 at the Board of Education, four at the sheriff’s department and none in highway or county departments); year-to-date incident frequency was 57 with 46 OSHA-recordable incidents. Reserves and paid amounts were stated. The committee voted to accept the OSHA report.

The wellness report noted 366 wellness goals met through March. A member raised a point of order that wellness reports had not been voted on historically; the chair said a vote would be taken for consistency and the committee approved the wellness report.

The meeting moved on to insurance bids after these approvals and adjourned after finishing the agenda items.
