Resident urges council to fund pedestrian safety improvements at Pullman and Ralston

At the public comment period, resident Xiaoyu told the council he has repeatedly raised concerns about pedestrian safety at the Pullman Avenue and Ralston Avenue intersection and urged the council to commit funding for a permanent Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB). He said drivers’ sightlines and downhill speeds make the crossing dangerous, that he personally witnessed two incidents in the past year, and that interim steps (a radar speed sign and recent striping) do not fully address the hazard.
Xiaoyu thanked Public Works staff and specifically named Daniel Matthews and the city’s Public Works PTSC for their efforts over the past year but said a permanent engineering solution is needed. He asked the council to prioritize the beacon in the city’s capital improvement plan and secure funding to implement the device.
No council action was taken immediately; the comment was recorded as part of public comment for the evening. Public Works staff will incorporate community requests into CIP planning and budgeting discussions.
