Rancho Cucamonga council adopts earlier 6 p.m. start time for regular meetings

The Rancho Cucamonga City Council voted to change the start time of its regular meetings from 7 p.m. to 6 p.m., effective July 1, 2026, adopting resolutions 2026-030 and 2026-031.
City staff told the council the adjustment is intended to make meetings more accessible to residents and business owners and to better align sessions with the end of the workday. "This change would also apply to related agencies that meet during these sessions," said Ashton Arocha, city clerk services director, during the staff presentation.
City Manager explained that closed session will remain scheduled at 4:30 p.m. and that Planning and Historic Preservation Commission meetings are proposed to shift to a 6 p.m. start as well. The staff presentation said the change will not alter meeting days or location and that the shift is intended to provide council more time to consider agenda items.
A motion to adopt the resolutions passed; the clerk recorded the motion as carried unanimously, with Mayor Michael absent.
The council’s action updates the schedule for the city council and related agencies beginning July 1; staff will implement the calendar change and notify the public.
