The Rancho Cucamonga City Council voted unanimously to bring the six-month minor use permit (MUP) review for Hamilton Family Brewery to the council level after residents raised ongoing noise, parking and safety complaints.
Councilmember Christine Scott asked that the item be agendized for council consideration once staff completes its review. Resident Miguel Espinosa told the council that the brewery sits "across the street from residential area, right next to senior, low income senior homes," and described littering and instances of patrons urinating on lawns near the senior home. "A brewery moved across street into a quiet neighborhood," Espinosa said, urging follow-up.
City staff explained that the MUP process includes a staff-level evaluation after six months. "Under the MUP, it is a staff level review and recommendations just back to end conversations," the city manager said, adding that staff could prepare a written report and make it available to the council. Staff also said it would meet with neighbors and the brewery owner as part of the review process.
Council members said they wanted the staff report and any conversations with the owner to be shared with the council before a final action. The motion to bring the MUP review to the council for consideration carried unanimously.
The next steps are for staff to complete the MUP review, document findings in a public report, and present that report to the council; council members suggested continuing dialogue between residents and the brewery owner before the March staff report is finalized.
