Fontana recognizes youth athletes, names 2026 senior advisory board members

A presenter and Coach Eddie highlighted the youth teams’ accomplishments, noting regional championships and a national placement. Coach Eddie closed his remarks with a motivational line citing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar: "Those who endure, conquer," and thanked parents, coaches and the city for support.
Superintendent Michael Wright and Doug Johnson of senior services presented plaques honoring outgoing senior advisory board members Carol Smith and Joy Quister (Quister could not attend). Doug Johnson then introduced the 2026 senior advisory board by name: Kathy Potts (chair), Melva Basher, Dolores Hernandez (vice chair), Vernon Hernandez, Christina Calderon, Eugenia Torres (treasurer) and Betty Sandoval.
Community services manager Chrissy Samples also introduced new expanded learning program staff: Taylor Grimes (administrative technician) and Joelle Johnson (recreation/community services coordinator), who each offered brief remarks about background and enthusiasm for the roles.
What happens next: The commission welcomed the appointees and staff; no formal vote was required for the recognitions presented at this meeting.
