Deputy/acting presenters explained that department firearms instructors and a testing panel recommended replacing the long‑issued Glock 17 with the Staccato 2011 platform, citing reduced felt recoil, improved accuracy under stress and better qualification scores during testing. Staff said the package includes firearms, holsters, red‑dot systems, training from the manufacturer and a lifetime warranty with a loaner program for incident investigations.
"We're actually gonna trade them in for a credit," a police presenter said during council questions, adding the trade‑in value is expected to be about $31,000 for roughly 75 weapons. Staff said the Staccato firearms are manufactured in Texas and the purchase would be funded entirely from asset forfeiture funds, with no impact to the general fund.
Council moved and seconded the item and approved the appropriation and authorization for the city manager to execute necessary documents. The vote was unanimous.
The council did not receive public comment on the purchase during the meeting. The action directs staff to proceed with procurement and noted trade‑in arrangements with the manufacturer.
