Jackson council imposes 90-day stays on three demolition permits after historic-preservation board request

The Jackson Town Council voted May 4 to impose 90‑day stays on three demolition permits at Redmond Street (structures at 335 and 325 Redmond) and one permit at 580 East Hanson Street, following a recommendation from the Teton County Historic Preservation Board.
Planning Director Paul Anthony said the board had found each structure historically significant and recommended a 90‑day stay to allow the applicant and interested parties to explore alternatives such as relocating structures. "The board felt 90 days would give an opportunity for folks to come in and see if they could move the building, or some alternatives as opposed to demolition," said Nicholas Hofeck, speaking for the Historic Preservation Board. Hofeck said consultants with Turnstone Research supported the board’s evaluation.
Applicant John Strickland told council he had already reached out to potential movers. Councilor Schechter moved and Councilor Beeman seconded separate motions for stays on each permit; each motion passed unanimously. Where a stay is imposed, the time period begins April 14, 2026, and would end 90 days later unless the council takes other action.
Councilors said the stays are intended to preserve time and space for community input and for the board and applicant to attempt alternatives to demolition.
