LifePointe asks council to consider leasing old police station for family services

During public comment, Anita Likens identified herself as a LifePointe board member and described the agency’s services, budget and space needs. She told council LifePointe operates a donation‑based program that supports families with children ages 0–4, runs classes and distributes "baby bucks" to help buy diapers and other baby supplies.
"One of the issues we have right now is we are potentially going to be losing our facility there... As council thinks about the use of the property at 10 East 1st Street, the old police station, we would love to be considered to lease that property and or buy that property as time moves on," she said. She said LifePointe’s operating budget is about $90,000 a year and that the nonprofit provides services in English and Spanish.
Council members thanked her for the update and noted that the facility is city‑owned and that discussions with the mayor’s office are underway; Anita said she has a scheduled appointment with the mayor to discuss options next Monday.
Council took no formal action on the request at the meeting; Anita asked to be considered in future discussions about reuse of the property.
