Chris Bieber, technology director for Knox Community School Corp., told trustees on May 4 the district completed a backend network overhaul and installed core equipment that has improved network speeds and reduced congestion between buildings.
Bieber reported concrete operational metrics: "we processed 352 repairs to date" for Chromebooks and the help desk has closed 658 tickets since Aug. 1. He said the department also obtained 12 new radios and has cycled older units through a rotation to fill gaps in coverage.
Bieber described the technology team as a "one-stop shop" that handles cabling, repairs and on-site fixes so the district does not have to outsource many tasks. He noted online enrollment improvements have reduced paperwork and manual entry, and he estimated 126 reregistrations have been completed for next school year.
The board thanked the IT staff for repairing devices in-house, which trustees said returns equipment to students more quickly and saves families shipping costs. The discussion closed with the board asking no additional questions and offering appreciation for the department’s work.
The district packet attached to the meeting lists more details in the director’s report; trustees did not take a separate vote on the technology items.
