Highlands council adopts consent resolutions and mayor outlines town projects and events

Highlands Borough Council adopted a consent agenda on May 6 that bundled multiple resolutions, including recognition of National Safe Voting Week, designation of Emergency Medical Services Week, authorization to donate a walk-through metal detector to Aberdeen, contractor extension for solid waste services, an agreement for snow removal and street-lighting reimbursement with Gateway Villas Condominium Association, payment of bills, a request to transfer roadway jurisdiction from Monmouth County to the borough, and acceptance of a donated sign for Veterans Memorial Park.
Council moved and seconded the consent agenda and recorded affirmative roll-call responses for each listed resolution. The mayor noted that roadway jurisdiction transfer will require county planning and county engineering review, followed by county commissioners' approval and subsequent borough action.
In his report the mayor previewed ongoing and upcoming projects: the borough's master plan survey is live on the municipal website; a mobile motor vehicle commission unit will provide Real ID and vehicle services to residents; tide valves at the Coves have been replaced with inline check valves and residents report reduced flooding; Overlook Park work (pavers, fence, planting) is underway with a goal to finish before Memorial Day; Frank Hall Park clearing revealed buried utility material requiring coordination with New Jersey American Water before installing a bocce court; and Twin Light Terrace drainage and retaining-wall repairs started April 27 to route stormwater safely into existing drains. The mayor also listed upcoming events (Mother's Day May 10, Armed Forces Day May 16, Seacort Craft Show May 24, Memorial Day service May 31) and said the VFW will donate and help install a new Veterans Memorial Park sign.
