The Fredonia Central School District Board of Education approved the probationary appointment of Laura Burnside to a school psychologist position, voting in favor during the April 28 meeting.
Superintendent Dr. Zayas congratulated Burnside and highlighted her experience, saying candidates’ interviews showed that her nearly 20 years of relevant experience stood out and that she would “hit the ground running.” Trustees echoed the welcome: one member said that the candidate would “immediately lift our building up.”
Burnside addressed the board after the vote, identifying herself as a former district student who had attended Fredonia K–12 and as a parent of elementary-age children. “I’m just happy to be home,” she said.
The personnel action was approved by voice vote and the board welcomed Burnside before moving to new business. The board did not attach additional conditions to the appointment in the public record.
Next steps: Burnside’s appointment is probationary; the board did not note a follow-up report schedule in the public discussion.
