Sevier County budget committee forwards attorney general fee resolution to full board

Mayor Larry Waters presented the resolution to the committee, saying the request came from District Attorney General Jimmy Dunn and noting that similar measures had passed in Cocke and Jefferson counties and were planned for Grainger County. According to the committee record, Waters said Dunn assured members that funds collected in Sevier County would remain available for use in the county.
Commissioner Gary Cole moved that the committee accept the resolution and forward it to the Board of Commissioners for approval contingent on an agreement with the district attorney’s office that funds used for the Public Defender’s Office come from the revenue generated by the resolution. Commissioner Ronnie Whaley seconded the motion, which the committee approved unanimously.
No vote totals or additional conditions were recorded in the minutes. The committee’s action was procedural: the full Board of Commissioners is scheduled to consider the resolution at a forthcoming meeting.
